Fishing
Jackson
County NC and our beautiful Western North
Carolina Mountains offer anglers the chance to enjoy some of the truly phenomenal Great Smoky Mountain fishing in the area. Families and beginner fishermen are encouraged to go on a North Carolina flyfishing guided tour, provided by many of the local fishing outfitters.
In Cashiers North Carolina you can cast your line and fish for brook, brown, and rainbow trout, as well as smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye and bream. Places like the Davidson River, the Tuckasegee River, and the Chattooga River are well stocked rivers from which several tributaries and creeks flow. These locations contain some of the best flyfishing spots in the Western North Carolina Mountains and offers anglers solitude, as many of them are tucked away and hidden.
The Chattooga River arises just southwest of Cashiers and has several nice places to cast your line, and it also has some spectacular scenery. It winds and follows the border where Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina intersect and bisects the Ellicott Rock wilderness area.
The Tuckasegee River is a famed catch and release river that is well stocked with more fish than any other river in the North Carolina Mountains. In fact, the Charlotte Observer called the Tuckasegee River, “Western North Carolina’s best trout stream for fly anglers” so this is a river you simply must fish near our
Cashiers Vacation Rentals. The best 5 mile stretch of the river has some nice slower moving, deep pools where the fish are very aggressive and feed on most any bait.
The
Davidson River, is one of the best trout fishing
rivers in the entire country, however it can be
a bit tricky fishing in NC. The structure of the
Davidson River varies greatly. While you might
be in a deep pool, the river bed might widen to
a large seventy foot wide roaring river. Many of the
fishing outfitters in Cashiers offer guided
Davidson River fishing excursions that are a great way to learn about fishing this unique river.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is very close to Cashiers and contains some nice, secluded mountain brook-trout streams. Here the elevation rises above 2,000 feet and many of these clear streams are filled with native, wild trout. The early logging operations that took place in the first quarter of the 1900’s wiped out many of the native trout species in these streams, however today the fish population is trying to recover and are in abundance in
many places.
