Just a short drive away from Cashiers is Sapphire NC and many great NC mountain courses. Sapphire Mountain, now known as Sapphire National Golf Club is a great course to play and always a challenge with its numerous changes in elevation.

in Sapphire, the golf club is truly an enchanting NC mountain golf course.
The course underwent extensive renovations under
the supervision of the new owners in the spring
of 2008 and just re-opened in May 2008. For a quicker round, play Red Bird Golf Links. Red Bird Golf Links in Sapphire NC is a nice, nine hole course to play if you get the chance. Designed by Reid Horne, Red Bird opened in 2001 and is a local favorite for those avid golfers looking to hit a few holes.
 Highlands NC is also very close to Cashiers beautiful Western North Carolina Mountain region and is home to some great championship courses, Highlands Cove being one of the best! Highlands Cove is a very pleasurable course to play and in addition to its spectacular design and layout has one of the finest practice and chipping greens in the area. Designed by Tom Jackson of Greenville, SC, Highlands Cove’s design highlights and captures the true beauty of the area. Here golfers can play a round against a backdrop of breathtaking, panoramic long range views that seem to never end.
In Whittier NC, Smoky Mountain Country Club sits in a beautiful valley, and the course’s well maintained fairways are surrounded by soaring mountain peaks, providing some truly breathtaking locations. With over 25 years of experience, Thomas Walker, course architect, designed Smoky Mountain Country Club with golfers of all skill levels in mind, and as such, this course is a great place to play no matter what your average handicap.
